Chien Hsin University’s Basketball Team was established in 2009, and coming into it’s 7th year of founding. Each year, the team has shown increased achievements in the annual University Basketball Association (UBA). Originally, the UCH team began in UBA Division II. In order to improve overall performance, a number of key players from top performing team in the High School Basketball League were recruited. Some of the schools include Song Shan Senior High School, National Keelung Commercial & Industrial Vocational Senior High School, and the champion Neng Ren Economic And Commercial Vocational High School. As a result, the team has been proven successful, winning 5th place in the 2013 UBA Open Tournament.
In 2014, more key players from Neng Ren Economic and Commercial Vocational High School and from the FIBA Asia U18 Team were recruited, thus reducing the gap between players in the starting lineup and the reserves. Determined to give their very best, the team won the UBA Division II championships that year, advancing to UBA Division I the next year challenging the top university basketball teams in Taiwan.
In 2015, the UCH team participated in its first UBA Division I tournament. To prepare for the highly competitive games, a new training strategy was developed to enhance the team’s capability. The UCH team broke UBA records by winning fourth place as a first year team.
To further train its athletes, the UCH team has participated in the 2014 Penang Chief Minister Cup to gain experience from playing against professional teams from all over the world. Additionally, the UCH team has had training in Mainland China, with frequent practices and games with university teams from Japan, Korea and Hong Kong. In the same year, the UCH team won the championship in the I-Shou University and Lao Lao Cup Tournament.
In 2016, Chien Hsin University’s Basketball team won the championship of UBA Division I, marking a milestone in the team’s history. The UCH team’s efforts have certainly paid off, and are now widely recognized by the public.
